Market Chaos in Cape Coast: Four Injured After Taxi, Truck Crash at Kotokuraba

Four people have sustained injuries following a collision between a taxi and a truck near the busy Kotokuraba Market in Cape Coast.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station responded to the accident on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at about 10:28 a.m.

According to the fire service, the rescue team arrived at the scene four minutes later and found that a Toyota Echo taxi cab with registration number GW 5934-14 and a Samsung Yamouzine truck with registration number CR 487-18 had collided.

Preliminary observations indicated that both vehicles were descending the Kotokuraba bypass slope to join the Mfantsipim–Kotokuraba stretch of road when the crash occurred in front of GTBank.

Four people, three men and one woman, sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash.

The victims were rescued by bystanders and rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and Ewim Polyclinic for treatment before the arrival of firefighters.

The impact of the crash left the Toyota Echo taxi completely wrecked, while the Samsung Yamouzine truck suffered partial damage to its engine compartment.

Although the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, eyewitnesses at the scene suggested that the truck may have suffered brake failure while descending the slope.

Firefighters later cleared debris from the road and moved the damaged vehicles to the roadside to restore the free flow of traffic in the busy commercial area.
