Kotoku Market Clash:Police Launch Manhunt After Gunshots During Traders’ Dispute

The Accra Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspects involved in a disturbance and unlawful discharge of firearms at the Kotoku Onion Market in the Adjen Kotoku area.

Police say the incident followed rising tension among five onion sellers’ associations over disagreements regarding the distribution of onions supplied by foreign traders.

According to preliminary information, the dispute escalated into a clash on April 6, 2026—during which gunshots were heard from an unidentified location.

Police officers responded swiftly to the scene, but the individuals responsible for the gunfire fled before they could be apprehended.

Additional patrol teams were deployed to the area to restore calm, while Police engaged the leadership of the various associations to help de-escalate the situation.

Authorities say patrols have since been intensified around the market to prevent further disturbances.

The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public against acts of violence and the unlawful use of firearms—urging all parties to resolve disputes through lawful means.

Police say the situation at the market remains under control and continues to be closely monitored.
