The Mankranso District Police Command, in collaboration with the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, has undertaken a successful joint anti-galamsey operation in the Mpasaaso and Achiase areas within the Ahafo Ano South West District.
The special operation, conducted on Monday, 2nd June 2025, was aimed at clamping down on illegal mining activities that continue to threaten the environment and local water bodies.

Upon arrival at the targeted sites, several illegal miners fled the area, abandoning equipment and materials. A thorough search and inspection of the scene led to the seizure of:
- One (1) CAL 9mm pistol loaded with three (3) rounds of live ammunition
- Four (4) pump-action guns
- Twelve (12) live BB cartridges
- Five (5) live AA cartridges
- Five (5) excavators

The five excavators have since been impounded and are currently secured at the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly premises. All firearms and ammunition have been handed over to the Mankranso District Police Command for further investigations.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the officers and stakeholders involved for their professionalism and dedication during the operation. The Command has also reiterated its call to the general public to support ongoing efforts by providing credible information to help arrest and prosecute individuals involved in illegal mining.

The fight against galamsey continues to be a top priority for law enforcement and local authorities, as they work together to protect Ghana’s natural resources and uphold the rule of law.
