The Accra Regional Police Command is investigating the tragic death of Stephen King Amoah, an Immigration Officer who was reported missing on July 4, 2025. His burnt body was discovered on July 9, 2025, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra.
According to the command, officers discovered the severely burnt body on the morning of July 9 and transported it to the Police Hospital morgue. Despite the extent of the burns, the family was able to positively identify the deceased as Stephen King Amoah, who had been missing since the night of July 3, 2025. Investigators from the Taifa Police joined the scene and later accompanied the complainant and six family members to the morgue.

Initial investigations revealed that on the evening of July 3, at about 8:00 p.m., the deceased left his home in Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images of cash bundles from an acquaintance, Bright Aweh. Bright had requested to meet him at a local spot to settle an outstanding amount. Amoah never returned home, and his phone was switched off from that night.

Police operations led to the arrest of suspect Bright Aweh, who, during interrogation, admitted to giving the deceased 500,000 cedi in cash. Bright claimed that part of the money was meant to pay debts and that Amoah was to keep the remainder for later collection. However, the suspect could not explain the source of the funds and provided conflicting statements during questioning.

The Regional Police Command has strongly condemned this violent and criminal act and assured the public that it is working diligently to uncover the full circumstances and ensure that all responsible persons are brought to justice.
Police are urging anyone with information related to this case to contact the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 18555 or 192.
