The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested an Immigration officer, AICO1 Ahmed Abdul Samad, in connection with the alleged transportation of 2,600 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition seized in the Ashanti Region.
Police sources say the suspect, a native of Nalerigu, is currently stationed at the Paga Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service.

During interrogation, AICO1 Abdul Samad denied any knowledge of the ammunition. He told investigators that in June 2025, he was transferred from the Tema Regional Immigration Headquarters, where he served as a dispatch rider, to the Paga Sector Command. According to him, he left behind some personal items, including a body armour plate and an old black long boot, during the transfer.
He further explained that on December 26, 2025, he contacted an Immigration officer identified as Isaac, who is stationed at the Service’s headquarters in Accra, to send the items to him. Police sources indicated that Isaac allegedly packaged the items together with a ballistic helmet, an electric diffuser, and a disco bulb, and dispatched them via an OA Bus with registration number GT 5771-18.
However, during a routine police stop-and-search operation at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier in the Ashanti Region, officers reportedly discovered 2,600 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition. A separate bag concealed beneath the driver’s seat was also found to contain two bulletproof plates, a black crushed helmet, and a pair of long boots.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the consignment and to identify all persons connected to the alleged offence.
