IMF program will check the government’s careless behavior- Mahama tells the US Ambassador

Former President John Mahama told Ghana’s ambassador, Virginia E. Palmer, that the program the Akufo-Addo government wants from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will stop what he thinks is reckless behavior on the part of the government.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for president in 2020 told the Ambassador that the government has been wasting Covid funds.

He also said that the country’s economic problems are so bad because the government made bad economic decisions.

During a meeting with Ambassador Palmer in Accra, Mr. Mahama said, “Confidence will only be restored when people know that we are on a plan and that the government won’t act as recklessly as it did in the past.

Speaking in a meeting with Ambassador Palmer in Accra, Mr Mahama said “Confidence will only be restored when people know that we are in a programme and that the government will not behave as recklessly as it did in the past.

Mr. Mahama further added that the NDC  has not done much to fight against them because they are aware of how bad the situation is. The NDC   have given them a lot of good advice about what to do. But the ruling party is very proud and wouldn’t want to look like they asked someone else for help. They have a saying that goes, “We have the men.” The men don’t seem to know what to do, though.

Meanwhile, the Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgina, says that the Covid pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war are to blame for Ghana’s weak economy.

She says that the two unexpected shocks have had a big effect on the economy and are to blame for the country’s problems, not what she calls “bad policies” by the government.
