“I Didn’t Kill My Friend”-Prime Suspect in Murder of Immigration Officer Maintains Innocence

Bright Aweh, one of the prime suspects in the murder of Stephen King Amoah, an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, has publicly declared his innocence, insisting he did not kill his friend.

Speaking briefly to journalists while leaving the Kaneshie District Court on Monday, January 19, 2026, Aweh denied the allegation and expressed confidence that he would be vindicated through the legal process.

“I didn’t kill my friend. I’m not a murderer. I will pass through it,” he said.

Aweh and a second suspect, Zigah, are currently in custody for their alleged involvement in Amoah’s murder.

Background to the Case

Stephen King Amoah went missing on July 3, 2025, after leaving his home to meet Aweh at Ashongman Estates. Days later, his body was discovered in a drain at Abom Junction, sparking widespread public concern.

Police investigations revealed that the meeting between the two friends had been arranged following WhatsApp exchanges involving images of cash, allegedly linked to the settlement of a debt.

Aweh reportedly told investigators that he had given Amoah ¢500,000 to clear a debt and retain the balance. However, police say inconsistencies in his account raised red flags.

Evidence and Arrests

Aweh was initially charged with kidnapping, but was later arrested for murder after police retrieved a bloodstained camouflage fabric and a fufu pestle wrapped in polythene from his residence.

The second suspect, Zigah, was arrested after weeks of intensive investigations.

Charges

Both suspects have been formally charged with conspiracy to murder and murder and are expected to face trial as investigations continue.

Police say further disclosures may emerge as the case progresses.
