Galamsey: Chief, Brother Arrested for Illigally Mining in Sefwi Elubu Township

A chief of Sefwi Elubo and his brother have been arrested over illegal mining activities in the Sefwi Elubo township in the Western North Region.

Nana Anini Baffour and his brother Kwadwo Affi were arrested following Police investigation of a video circulating on social media showing illegal mining activities in some compound houses in the town.

The Police moved in on Friday September 16, and arrested the chief and his brother.

Six others believed to be accomplices in the crime but who managed to escape arrest are being pursued by the police.
Investigations have so far discovered dug-outs and pits in the compound leading to Kwadwo Affi’s bedroom.

The police found four more pits in other houses in the same vicinity. Preliminary investigation has further revealed that the chief, Nana Anini Baffour, his brother and the six other suspects now on the run, are the brain behind the illegal mining activities.
