The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight suspected highway robbers in a targeted intelligence-led operation in the Ejura area of the Ashanti North Region.
The suspects are believed to be linked to a robbery attack on March 26, 2026, at the Aframso Bridge on the Mampong–Ejura Highway.

Police say the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when six armed men attacked a commercial minibus transporting 14 passengers from Kumasi to Atebubu. The driver, identified as Appiah Joseph, and his passengers were reportedly robbed of cash and mobile phones.
Following the attack, intelligence teams launched surveillance operations, leading to a raid on March 30 at a location identified as Amakwa Dadey Hotel in Ejura—
Where the suspects were allegedly found sharing money believed to be proceeds from the robbery.

Eight suspects were arrested during the operation. They have been identified as Amidu Sajo, Ibrahim Sule, Karim Hadu, Malik Jibrilla, Yusifa Asakoko, Umaru Issifu, Damani Yamba, and Ibrahim Iddrisu, also known as “Bule.”
Police say Iddrisu, who was on a wanted list in connection with a 2023 robbery case on the same stretch, attempted to flee during the operation and reportedly attacked an officer.

He was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital after being transferred from the Mampong Government Hospital.
The operation also led to the retrieval of several items, including live ammunition, three cutlasses, an amount of ¢15,717, eight mobile phones, and other exhibits believed to be linked to the robbery.

The remaining suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest additional accomplices and recover more weapons.
The Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling highway robbery and is urging the public to support ongoing operations by volunteering credible information to enhance road safety.
