Bernard Antwi-Boasiako-Chairman Wontumi, Reports to CID over Mining Allegations

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra on Monday, 26 May 2025, following an official police invitation.

Chairman Wontumi, who arrived at the CID premises at midday, was accompanied by a legal team led by former Attorney General Godfred Dame. His appearance forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal mining activities.

According to a police statement, Antwi-Boasiako was cautioned on the following allegations:

  1. Undertaking mining operations without a license
  2. Pollution of water bodies
  3. Entering a forest reserve without authorisation

Police officials confirmed that the NPP regional chairman fully cooperated during the session and provided a formal statement. He was subsequently granted bail and is expected to report back to the CID at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 27 May 2025.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
