Berekum Drug Den Busted: Police Nab Alleged Kingpin as He Tries to Flee

The Berekum Divisional Police Command has arrested a suspected narcotics kingpin in a major intelligence-led operation at Nyamebekyere, a suburb of Berekum Municipality, in the Bono Region.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old David Frimpong, was arrested at his residence — a semi-completed building — after attempting to escape upon sighting Police officers.

A search conducted at the premises uncovered a large cache of suspected narcotic substances and related items. These include 57 compressed slabs of dried leaves, 195 wraps of dried leaves, and three sacks containing quantities of dried leaves, all suspected to be Indian hemp.

Also retrieved were a container of “groundnut cake” toffee suspected to be laced with Indian hemp, six pairs of scissors, 14 packs of cigarettes, and 190 wrapping papers, believed to be used for packaging the drugs.

All exhibits have been secured and retained for evidential and forensic examination as investigations continue.

The Police say the arrest forms part of sustained efforts to clamp down on the illegal drug trade and dismantle criminal networks threatening public safety in the Bono Region. The suspect is expected to be processed for court as investigations progress.
