Armed Attack on Immigration Officers at Gbintiri: One Killed, One Injured

The North East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a deadly armed attack on two personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Gbintiri Inland Checkpoint near Nalerigu.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the two officers who were on duty at the post.

Both officers sustained gunshot wounds. Sadly, one of them was pronounced dead, while the other was rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment in critical condition.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers, leaving behind a service rifle that was retrieved by police investigators.

The North East Regional Police Command says a manhunt is underway to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The Command has also appealed to the public to provide any credible information that could assist in the investigation.

“We wish to assure the public that every effort is being made to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act,” the statement said.
