Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury look like they will finally meet in the ring after AJ’s management confirmed on his behalf that they have accepted the Gypsy King’s offer
Anthony Joshua has revealed he’s accepted all terms put to him for a December 3 date with Tyson Fury – but is still awaiting a response from his rival.
The former WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion has claimed Fury’s team have gone silent after talks were halted out of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her passing.
Joshua’s team have been locked in discussions with Fury’s side for the last 10 days after a shock call out by the WBC title holder.
They have now agreed terms for a December 3 date at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium for the all-British battle.
A statement from Joshua’s 258 management team said: “258 and Matchroom Boxing can confirm, on behalf of Anthony Joshua, that we accepted all terms presented to us by Fury’s team for a fight Dec 3rd last Friday.
“Due to the Queen’s passing, it was agreed to halt all communication. We are awaiting a response.”
The fact Joshua’s side have agreed to all terms is a significant step in negotiations.
But the silence from Fury’s team appears to worry the Watford warrior if they’ve taken to Twitter to release a statement.
Fury offered Joshua a 60/40 split for a November 12 date at Old Trafford earlier last week. That included a rematch clause at 50/50 if Joshua won the first fight.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn insisted his man wouldn’t be ready for November 12 after he lost to Oleksandr Usyk for the second time last month.
So they requested a December 17 date in Cardiff but that was dismissed by Fury’s side. They are keen for their man to fight earlier because they want him ready for a March showdown with Usyk in Saudi Arabia.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren proposed either a November 26 date at Wembley or December 3 in Cardiff to Joshua’s side.
They’ve now confirmed they’ve accepted this date along with other details on the deal including the purse splits for the rematch.
Fury has not fought since he knocked out Dillian Whyte in April and is eager to return to the ring as soon as possible.
He wanted to face WBA, IBF and WBO champion Usyk in an undisputed fight in December but the Ukrainian has claimed he won’t be ready for then and wants the bout early next year instead.
Saudi Arabia are confident they have a deal in place for the undisputed clash when both men are ready.
