Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye Calls for Calm and Unity in Ghana Boxing

2 Min Read

President of the Ghana Boxing Promoters Association, Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, has appealed for calm, unity, and renewed focus within Ghana’s professional boxing community amid recent changes in leadership at the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

Speaking on Omashi TV’s popular boxing show, The Big Fight Night, Ntiamoah-Boakye urged all stakeholders to support a peaceful and constitutional transition following the resignation of GBA President Abraham Kotei Neequaye.

“The GBA operates under a constitution, and that document must guide our actions in times like these,” he emphasized.

He confirmed that Second Vice President Referee Roger Barnor has rightfully assumed interim leadership, as stipulated by the GBA’s governing rules.

Ntiamoah-Boakye expressed full confidence in Barnor, calling him experienced, level-headed, and capable of maintaining stability until a new president is elected.

Hands Off From Outside Forces

The veteran promoter warned against external interference, particularly from the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, insisting that the GBA is competent enough to manage its internal affairs, including electoral processes.

“Boxing’s best future lies in our ability to self-regulate and stay united,” he stated.

Focus on Promotions, Not Politics

Dismissing any ambitions for the top job, Ntiamoah-Boakye made it clear that he has no intention of contesting for the GBA presidency, preferring instead to focus on his promotional work and supporting the incoming leadership.

His next boxing event is slated for September, featuring:

  • A National Super Middleweight Championship clash between Jonathan Tetteh and Obodai Sai
  • A return to the ring for UK-based fighter Freezy MacBones
  • Appearances from rising local stars

Wishing Neequaye Well

He concluded by extending warm wishes to former GBA President Abraham Kotei Neequaye, acknowledging the challenges he faced and expressing hope that the experience will serve him well in his future endeavors.

“He gave it his best, and I respect that,” Ntiamoah-Boakye said. “Let’s all focus on building, not breaking, Ghana boxing.”
