The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old laundry attendant, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, into police custody for allegedly publishing false information intended to cause fear and public panic.
Razzaq is accused of posting a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, in which he claimed that two military officers were plotting to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
The court did not take his plea and ordered that he remain in custody until February 9, 2026, when he is expected to reappear before the court.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, told the court that the complainant in the case is the Ghana Police Service.
According to the facts presented, on January 20, 2026, the accused allegedly published a video naming Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the officers involved in the alleged assassination plot.
Razzaq was arrested the following day at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement, the accused admitted to making the video but stated that he had never met the officers and did not know them personally. He claimed he had “chanced upon a post on social media” making the allegation, which prompted him to publish the video.
However, investigators say he failed to lead them to the source of the alleged post.
The case remains under investigation.
