The Accra Regional Police Command has provided a comprehensive update on a number of high-profile cases and criminal incidents under investigation, as well as the unlawful use of firearms across the region. Speaking to the media, Public Relations Officer for the Command, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, also assured the public of robust security measures ahead of the upcoming Homowo Festival.

Acid Attack and Stabbing Cases Move to Court

Superintendent Obeng confirmed that Mavis, a woman accused of giving her ex-boyfriend an acid bath, has made three court appearances so far. The incident, reported roughly three weeks ago, initially left the victim in critical condition. Updates on the latest court proceedings will be provided as the case develops.

In a separate incident, Augustina Adoma, who reportedly stabbed her ex-boyfriend and set his property on fire, has also been arraigned. She has been remanded into custody and is expected to reappear in court on July 10, 2025.

Threat Against Police Officer

Addressing another widely shared case, Obeng noted that Israel Agbo Forson, who was captured in a viral video threatening a police officer, has been charged with threat of harm. He was arraigned on Thursday and appeared in court again on Monday, July 7. Further details will be released following the court’s ruling.

Armed Robbery and Drug Cases

The police also provided updates on a robbery case involving four young men. Three of the suspects have already been convicted and jailed, while one, involved in drug-related charges, is still facing trial. The Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and all necessary legal processes are being followed.

Firearm Possession and Public Awareness

On the issue of illegal firearm use, the Command stressed that anyone seeking to acquire or carry a firearm must go through a thorough legal process. Superintendent Obeng called on the media and public to support education efforts on the dangers of unlawful firearm possession, emphasising its risk to public safety.

“As a security institution, we don’t operate in isolation. We’re ready to collaborate with stakeholders like the Small Arms Commission to ensure proper legislation is passed and enforced,” she stated.

Security Ahead of Homowo Festival

Superintendent Juliana Obeng also assured residents of adequate police presence and preparation ahead of the Homowo Festival. A joint team composed of regional police officers and members of the traditional council has been formed to ensure safety throughout the celebration period.

“We are fully prepared to provide security before, during, and after the festival. But we ask for the public’s cooperation as we work to protect them.”

She reiterated the Command’s commitment to transparency and promised timely updates on all ongoing investigations.
