The Accra Regional Police Command has successfully cracked down on two major armed robbery operations and a suspected drug distribution ring within the Greater Accra Region. Addressing the media, Regional Commander DCOP Duuti Tuaruka revealed details of the arrests, convictions, and ongoing investigations, assuring the public of continued vigilance and safety.

The Accra Regional Police Command has announced major breakthroughs in two high-profile robbery cases and a separate drug trafficking case, leading to the arrest and conviction of several suspects.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, Regional Police Commander DCOP Duuti Tuaruka said the cases represent a firm commitment by the police to rid the region of criminal elements through intelligence-led operations and community collaboration.

Domi Robbery and ACP Junction Attack

DCOP Tuaruka recounted that on May 11, 2025, at approximately 1:25 a.m., two suspects—Isaac Agbe Zotu and Elias Moniman alias Elias Garba Manta—attacked the staff of Jaws Bakery at Domi while riding an unlicensed motorbike. The suspects discharged a locally made pistol into the air to intimidate victims, making away with a Techno smartphone, a handbag containing personal belongings, and a firearm.

Through covert investigations, Isaac Agbe Zotu was apprehended on May 14 and led police to key evidence including the motorbike and clothing used during the robbery. Further intelligence led to the arrest of Elias Garba Manta at a mining site between Osino and Saman. He later directed officers to a hideout in Amasaman where the pistol and live ammunition used in the robbery were recovered.

Both suspects were processed and prosecuted. Isaac Agbe Zotu was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Garba Manta was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment.

Further investigations linked Garba to a separate armed robbery on February 5, 2025, near ACP Junction, Kobenyak, where he and three others—Bride Aliko Elias Szemani, Emmanuel Odati Lamte (alias Kamillion), and Prince Owusu (alias Czech Boy)—attacked a victim, stealing an iPhone 11 Pro Max, a Samsung tablet, and withdrawing GHC 6,000 using stolen credentials. The attackers used knives and scissors, leaving the victim with injuries.

All three accomplices were arrested and subsequently sentenced to 15 years each by the Kobenyak Circuit Court. Police say investigations continue to trace buyers of stolen items, including the iPhone allegedly sold in Kufredwa.

Drug and Firearm Bust in Sabon Zongo

In another operation, police apprehended a suspect believed to be operating a drug distribution network from a shop in Sabon Zongo. Upon arrest, the suspect admitted to selling quantities of prescription drugs and led police to a cache that included Tramaco-225, Tramaking-225, Tramacarotrol-225 (commonly known as “Red”), and Darcipam 10 (“Blue-Blue” or “Volume-10”). A pump-action gun concealed in a sack was also recovered.

The suspect, Amidu Mohamed, claimed ownership of the drugs but denied knowledge of the firearm’s origin. He has since been arraigned before the Nsuman Circuit Court on two counts: unlawful possession of dangerous drugs (contrary to Section 38 of the Pharmacy Act, 1994, Act 489) and possession of a firearm without lawful authority (contrary to Section 192 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29).

Public Assurances and Appeal

DCOP Tuaruka praised the work of his intelligence and operational units and commended members of the public who assisted with credible information. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to public safety and encouraged continued cooperation.

“We assure all informants of strict confidentiality and protection. Together, we can make our communities safer and more secure,” he said.
