The future of some 150 kindergarten pupils of the Abutia Kpota ep basic school hangs in the balance following the closure of their school block.

The decision to lock-up the facility was informed by the absence of teachers as 3 of them have been transferred without replacement.

The Abutia Kpota ep basic school was established in the 1960s to serve as a resource centre for refugees from Togo following the assassination of Sylvanus Epiphanio Olympio.

Though the state later absorbed the school, it has attracted little attention.

Currently about 85 percent of the pupils carry kitchen stools to school daily due to lack of furniture.

Additionally, teachers trek long distances to school because there is no accommodation facility in the community for them.

Two out of four teacher bungalow projects started by the erstwhile PNDC regime was been left to rot in the bush.

Two of the facilities were however completed with sponsorship from the European union 5th micro projects programme.

In the midst of these, the ho west education directorate have transferred three teachers assigned to the kindergarten school without replacement for a year now.

The situation compelled the school management committee to lock up the kg block.

The community has meanwhile begun scouting to identify and recruit senior high leavers to assist the remaining teachers temporarily.
