Wisdom Boxing Promotions and Making Learning Happen (MLH) are joining forces to organize a meaningful boxing fundraiser event at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The purpose of this event is not only to showcase exciting boxing matches but also to raise funds for a noble cause – providing desks and chairs for thousands of pupils in schools throughout Ghana.
To introduce the boxers on the bill and shed light on the purpose of the promotion, a media workout was held at the Wisdom Boxing Gym on Monday. The event is set to feature eight thrilling professional bouts and 11 amateur elite and juvenile exhibitions.
Suleiman Abubakar, the driving force behind this initiative and CEO of Making Learning Happen (MLH), shared the inspiration behind the fundraiser. He mentioned a school in the Eastern Region where pupils were sitting and writing on cement blocks due to lack of proper desks and chairs. Touched by this sight, he decided to take action. After witnessing the positive impact of his efforts at a local level, he decided to expand his initiative nationwide, leveraging the appeal of sports, specifically boxing, to encourage donations for the underprivileged.
Abubakar expressed his perspective, saying, “I feel it’s like giving back to society… all proceeds and ticket sales will go to construct tables and chairs for schools in various regions across Ghana.” He called upon boxing enthusiasts and the general public to contribute personally to this vital project.
The event’s main attraction will feature a heavyweight contest between Suleiman Abubakar and young power puncher Haruna Mohammed, who boasts an undefeated record of two wins.
Other boxers from different countries are also slated to participate. Coach Dr. Ofori Asare, welcoming guests to his renovated gym, emphasized their commitment to nurturing grassroots boxers and ensuring they are not taken advantage of by unscrupulous promoters and managers.
Abraham Neequaye, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), expressed the GBA’s wholehearted support for the initiative. He called upon influential personalities to contribute to the cause, underscoring the importance of education within the framework of the GBA’s mission.
Female boxers will also grace the ring to entertain fans and patrons. The event will commence with juvenile and amateur boxers at 3 pm, followed by the professionals at 6 pm.
Tickets are available in three categories: 20 cedis for the popular stand, 50 cedis for Ringside, and 150 cedis for VIP. They can be purchased online, through mobile money services, and via WhatsApp.
As Ghana’s boxing enthusiasts gather for this impactful event, they’ll not only enjoy the excitement of the sport but also contribute to a cause that seeks to improve the educational environment for countless young minds across the country.
