The national catholic bishops conference say it will mobilize people from Bawku to picket at the jubilee house if the government failed to intervene adequately in the ongoing conflict
Addressing a media briefing in Accra the bishops expressed regret and dismay over the government’s continuous insensitivity to the lights of the people of Bawku and called for an immediate paradigm shift in approach.
The decades old Bawku chieftaincy conflict reignited on November 24, 2021 and has since left the municipality without any peace.
Government imposed a dust to dawn curfew and other restrictions on the municipality but the loss of lives and destruction of property continued.
A brute military action in response to sporadic shootings on Tuesday January 31, left ten more people dead on Wednesday February 1.
Between Monday February 6 and Wednesday February 9, nine more lives being lost including a national security operative after all night sporadic shooting.
And the national catholic bishops conference is worried.
According to the conference, the Government lookworm attitude towards the conflict smacks a sign of neglect.
The conference thinks that the government has turned its back on the people of Bawku hence they would do everything possible including picketing at the Jubilee House should the state fails again to act on their demands.
