Ten bodies have been recovered after some armed men wearing military uniforms allegedly attacked Zoongo near Sabongari in the Bawku municipality,

One person is said to be in critical condition after the horrific attack on Wednesday, February 1, while another person is reported missing.

Meanwhile, tension is mounting among the youth who are threatening to use self-defense.

According to reports, the horrific incident followed sporadic gun shots in the Bawku municipality on Tuesday night.

Eyewitnesses said that the armed military uniformed personnel stormed the Zoongo settlement and attacked three brothers.

Kudus Haruna, Gafaru Sumaila, and Eliasu Aayuma were working on their backyard field when they were attacked.

Gafaru Sumaila apparently managed to flee the gunmen by entering a neighboring silo, but the attackers allegedly set the silo on fire, killing him.

Their 57-year-old father, osman awini, is devastated.

“We are saddened this morning. Three of those lying there are my sons, others are my brothers. My children were working in the backyard farm when the soldiers opened fire on them. They chased others to their various houses and brutally short and killed them. Even one person who escaped into a barn was killed by setting fire to the foodstuff storage structure. What crime have we committed against the military who were posted here to settle conflict? The government must withdraw the military if their motive is to turn their weapons on us”.

Everyone began to flee for safety then but the armed uniformed men pursued them across the township.

Five more people, Mumuni Ndeego, Sumaila Adamu, Madi Mamudu, Issifu Karim, and Issah Kaasi, were gunned down before the assailants fled the scene.

The police later, in response to distress calls, assisted in transporting the deceased’s bodies to the vineyard hospital for examination.

While at the vineyard hospital, the police brought two more dead bodies from the azanga and nyorugu communities, bringing the total of dead to ten.

The police have however declined comment on the occurrence.

One more victim from Zoongo is currently in critical condition at the hospital, while one more has been reported missing.

The youth have become intolerant to those in uniform as a result of the circumstance.

There is high uncertainty regarding the justification and motivation for the attacks.
