The first vice chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Professor Fred Newton Binka, is pleading with the administration of the university to rename it in honour of the late former president, Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills, as a living memorial as well as his legacy.
Professor Binka made the appeal.at the Late President’s Memorial Heritage Lecture, at the UHAS main campus, in Ho.
The Memorial Heritage lecture series was the fourth since it was founded in honour of the late former President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.
This lecture series was to honor Professor Atta Mills’ life, time on earth, and reputation as one of Ghana’s respected leaders.
Additionally, it aspires to immortalize the excellent beliefs, principles, and leadership traits he possessed.
By an act of parliament, act 830, 2011, the late former president suggested the establishment of two universities in 2012, the University of Health and Allied Science, UHAS, in the Volta region and the University of Energy and natural Resources, UENR in the Bono region.
UHAS began in September 2012 with 154 students and now enrolls 7,676 individuals in a variety of academic programs.
Renaming the university after the late President would be a great honour for the nation’s past and present leaders, according to Professor Fred Newton Binka.
Many speakers at the lectures paid tribute to the late president, among them Dr. Grace Amey-Obeng, a medical esthetician and CEO of FC Beauty Group of Company Limited.
She noted that the Ghana we had under the late president had completely lost its way and required sober contemplation.
vice chancellor of UHAS, Professor Lydia Aziato, praised both previous and present administrations for their tremendous support of UHAS’ upward progress.
Atta Mills Speaks, a book that includes all of the late president’s live addresses, was also published at the event.
