The Economic and Organized Crime Office, EOCO as at June 30 had retrieved more than 20 million cedis from tax evaders across the country.
The executive director, cop Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah made this known during a media engagement in Accra.
part of the mandate of the economic and organized crimes office, EOCO, is the recovery of debts owed the state in taxes.
in line with the mandate, the office in january this year, zeroed in on those who pay tax directly through the ghana revenue authority, gra, the bulk oil storage and transportation company limited, bost, and the ghana ports and habour authority, gpha.
the effort led to the discovery of persons and organizations which had either under declared or completely outwitted the systems, leading to the recovery of more than 20 million cedis by end of June.
the office is also in the process of confiscating property acquired through gains from tax evasion.
bost in particular is up in arms against oil marketing accompanies, omcs, which are indebted to it.
available records show that omc’s owed bost nearly 70 million cedis.
according to the chief executive officer, George Mensah Okley, 18 omcs are currently before court, while others have renegotiated payment plans.
meanwhile, bost has presentated 2 bulk photocopying machines and accessories to eoco in appreciation of its support towards debt recovery.
