Reports that leading Flyweight boxer, Theophilus Allotey has been dropped from the national amateur boxing team going to Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games has raised apprehension among some boxing fans who have been monitoring the Black Bombers.
Former world champion, Joseph Agbeko, is one of those concerned about the situation as he sees Allotey as a very good medal hope.
He told Sammy Okaitey, that Allotey is young, skillful, talented and eager to go for a medal for Ghana.
According to Joseph Agbeko, he had petitioned the GOC/CGG President, Ben Nunoo Mensah, and some executive board members on the grounds that Allotey is the number one in the Flyweight division and has beaten all other contenders.
Theophilus Allotey won the 2022 Individual Championship held at the Accra Sports Stadium and Bukom Boxing Arena to select the boxing team to represent Ghana at the Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, Welfare Officer of Team Ghana for the Commonwealth Games Isaac Duah, has advised the Ghana Boxing Federation to do the right things to bring peace, love and unity to the team and country.
Ben Nunoo Mensah also hoped that the Black Bombers officials will select the best boxers to represent the nation.
