The Ghana Boxing Authority, GBA, wishes to inform the general public that the injured boxer from Sonia Boxing Gym, Tofa Agbesi, has been revived and responding to treatment adequately.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday in the Cruiserweight bout of the ongoing De-luxy Professional Boxing League week 6, between the hospitalized boxer, Tofa Agbesi from the League leaders, Sonia Boxing Gym and Issah Inusah of the Attor Quarshie Boxing Gym.
The fight was brought to a halt in round 3 due to serious injury suffered by Abgesi that caused him to collapsed instantaneously.
In a statement signed by the director of communications at the GBA, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, expressed its profound gratitude to the physician in-charge, Edward Asante, staff of Ghana National Ambulance and doctors at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital for their tireless effort in reviving the Boxer.
The GBA says it shall continue to update the public on the recovery of Agbesi and any other information necessary.
The statement advised the media to be circumspect in the deliberation and analysis of the subject matter, so as to avoid peddling of misconceptions and misinformation.
The incident occurred in less than a week after south Africa lost one of their promising boxers on Tueday June 7 through similar accident.
Simiso Buthelesi, collapsed during the fight and was later diagnosed to have suffered brain damage and internal bleeding.
