Gunfire in Ejura: Suspected Armed Robber Shot Dead in Police Crackdown

A suspected armed robber has been shot dead during a targeted police operation in Ejura in the Ashanti Region, as security agencies intensify efforts to dismantle violent criminal networks in the area.

The intelligence-led operation, carried out by the Police Intelligence Directorate on March 18, 2026, was aimed at tracking down a robbery gang believed to be behind a string of attacks on residents and commuters.

Deadly Encounter

Police say the suspect, identified only as Amadu, also known as “Manu,” sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and was later pronounced dead.

He is believed to be a key member of the gang that has been terrorising parts of the region.

Linked to Highway Attack

Investigators have connected the suspect to a recent robbery attack on March 14 along the Atebubu–Ejura highway.

In that incident, armed men reportedly opened fire on a moving vehicle, leaving a passenger injured and raising fresh concerns over highway security.

Weapons and Items Recovered

A search conducted after the operation led to the retrieval of:

  • A single-barrelled gun
  • Five live cartridges
  • A Tecno Pop 10 mobile phone
  • A cash sum of ¢200

Manhunt Intensifies

Police say the operation is far from over.

A full-scale manhunt is underway to track down other members of the robbery gang and bring them to justice.

Security Concerns Persist

The incident underscores growing concerns about armed robbery activities along key routes in parts of the Ashanti Region.

Residents and commuters have repeatedly raised alarm over safety, especially on highways linking Ejura to the surrounding districts.

For now, one suspect is dead, but the bigger battle is still unfolding.

And for many in Ejura, the question remains: when will the roads truly be safe?
