Police Crack Down on Unauthorized Private Security Uniforms Nationwide

The Ghana Police Service has issued a firm public notice warning private security operators and in-house security personnel to strictly comply with approved uniform standards or face sanctions under the law.

According to Regulation 12 of the Police Service (Private Security Organizations) Regulations, 1992 (LI 1571), only four uniform turnouts are authorized for use by private security personnel across the country:

• White long/short-sleeve shirt over ash khaki trousers with white stripes on both sides
• Cream long/short-sleeve shirt over brown khaki trousers with cream stripes on both sides
• Mauve long/short-sleeve shirt over maroon trousers with mauve stripes on both sides
• Yellow shirt with ash/grey reflective bands across the front and back over brown khaki trousers (strictly for Mines and Oil Fields)

The Police caution that any other uniform, colour combination, or design, especially those resembling the attire of state security agencies, is unauthorized and illegal.

All private security companies and in-house security units are therefore directed to immediately desist from using unapproved uniforms.

The Police warn that offenders will be sanctioned in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspected violations to the appropriate authorities as part of collective efforts to protect public safety and prevent impersonation.
