Police Investigate Attack on Officers at Jacobu

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an incident in which a patrol team from the Jacobu District was attacked by a group of civilians while on routine duty at Bepotenten Sukuum.

The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, after officers retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy during patrol operations. The juvenile was instructed to inform the owner of the firearm to report to the police station with the appropriate documentation.

However, while the patrol team was returning, they were confronted by a crowd of individuals who blocked the road.

The group, some of whom were allegedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle.

During the ensuing confrontation, the individual who took possession of the rifle was shot by the Police, while another suspect sustained injuries. The service rifle was subsequently retrieved.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and cautioned the public against assaults on law enforcement officers.

The Command has assured that all persons involved in the incident will be pursued, arrested, and made to face the full rigours of the law.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
