The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two Police Service officers for their bravery and vigilance during a snap check operation that thwarted a robbery attempt and rescued two victims in Ablekuma Borkorborkor, Greater Accra Region.

Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and Lance Corporal Joseph Akondoh, both from the Anyah District Police Command, were recognised alongside four Community Police Assistants (CPAs) during a ceremony at the Police Headquarters on Friday, 8 August 2025.

Constable Akondoh was promoted to Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Kotoka has been recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, where successful completion will see her commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps.

The Operation

At about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, 7 August, the officers were conducting routine vehicle checks when they stopped a green pickup truck carrying three passengers. Two jumped from the truck, shouting for help, and revealed they had been attacked the previous night during a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam.

Acting swiftly, the officers rescued the victims and arrested one suspect at the scene. Follow-up operations in the Eastern Region led to the arrest of six more suspects and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker and other exhibits.

Commendation from the IGP

The IGP praised the officers and CPAs for their professionalism and dedication, urging all personnel to emulate their example. He reiterated the Police Administration’s commitment to rewarding officers who excel in the line of duty.
