GNAFF Announces National Delegates Congress to Revive Farmers and Fishermen Association

The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) is undergoing a major reorganization ahead of its 8th National Delegates Congress, scheduled for July 11–12, 2025, at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Brofoyedu, in Kumasi.

At a press conference in Accra, the Consultant for GNAFF, Francis Opai Tetteh, announced the extensive measures being undertaken to restore the association to its former strength and purpose.

The association, established on November 11, 1992, was once a formidable platform uniting Ghana’s farmers and fisherfolk in pursuit of their welfare and advancement.

According to Opai Tetteh, the association’s decline in recent years was due to a range of issues, including constitutional violations, poor leadership, resource mismanagement, administrative lapses, weak membership mobilisation, and political interference.

“Our conscious and concerted examination revealed the current sorry state of the association. But we are determined to rebuild and reposition GNAFF for superior exploits,” he said.

Nationwide Reorganization

Francis Opai Tetteh disclosed that a national reorganisation team has so far mobilised and elected 1,715 executives across 245 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, and 120 regional executives in 15 regions. The Northern Region is the only remaining region yet to hold its regional elections, scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025.

The reorganization process has been supported by various national and regional stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Agricultural Development Bank, MASLOC, Ghana Police Service, and the National Service Scheme.
