Chairman of the NDC Council of Elders in South Africa, Mr. Benjamin Kofi Quashie has been drafted into the Communication Committee of the opposition party in its stronghold, Volta Region, as the party goes into a make or break general elections in December 2024.
His appointment was announced in a statement on Monday issued by the Volta Regional Secretariat of the NDC and signed by the Regional Secretary.
The Communication Committee chaired by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, was among several other Committees whose members have been urged to “bring their rich experience and expertise to help the party to win the 2024 general elections”.
The 25-member Communication Committee also include: Kwame Agbodza, Kafui Agbleze, Stan Xoexe Dogbe, George Loh, Timothy Gobah, Eric Ahianyo, and Edem Agbana.
Some of the working committees are: Council of Elders, Finance, Political, Constitutional and Legal, Social Welfare, Research and Strategic, Operations, Christian Religions, Security, Resource Bank, and Traditional Religious.
The statement dated September 3, 2024 said, “The Volta Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted and approved various regional working committees at its meeting held in Kpando on Friday, September 1, 2023.”
The Regional Executive Committee also passed resolutions to integrate parliamentary candidates elect who are not Members of Parliament into the Constituency Executive Committees (CECs) and the Regional Executive Committee (REC) with immediate effect.
“Their integration would amongst other things enhance campaign funding and strategies ahead of the 2024 general elections,” the statement said.
The party was charged to focus its attention more on the upcoming limited voter’s registration exercise and the district level elections.
Meanwhile, all former appointees were urged to move to their branches and constituencies to assist the executives during the period, for the limited voter’s registration exercise (12th Sept. to 2nd Oct, 2023)
REC also approved the proposal to build an ultra-modern 200-seater conference facility at the regional party office.
The project committee is chaired by Kwame Governs Aghoclza, MP for Adaklu and Minority Chief Whip in Parliament.
The Micro Fund Raising App/Platform (*248*52#) was also approved to generate funds for the party.
