The Winneba Police Division has foiled an attempted armed robbery at the Pomadze branch of Microfin Rural Bank, located opposite Perez University Junction, in the early hours of Friday, August 15, 2025.
According to police reports, the patrol team received intelligence around 1:50 a.m. that a group of armed men in face masks were attacking the bank.

Upon arrival at the scene, the robbers opened fire on the police, with bullets striking the patrol vehicle.
Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries.
Police returned fire, forcing the suspects to flee.
A search of the premises revealed four security guards tied up with white ropes.
Items retrieved included a welding-cutting machine, screwdrivers, two empty BB cartridge shells, two iron bars, a saw blade, sharp cutting plates, new padlocks, a pump-action gun with cartridges, and a set of door locks.

Investigations also confirmed that all entrances and exits of the bank had been forced open.
However, thanks to the swift police intervention, no money was stolen from the banking hall.
The Central Regional Police Command has assured residents of Pomadze and surrounding areas that the suspects will be tracked down and brought to justice.
According to the deputy Regional PRO, Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, investigations remain ongoing.
