Three suspects, Emmanuel Bonney, also known as Escobar, Mohammed Ali, alias Muzambiru, and Sariki Alhahi Ayuba Mohammed, were on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, arraigned before the Agona Swedru District Court, presided over by Victor Kusi,

After the court proceedings, all three suspects were remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear before the court on February 10, 2026.

Meanwhile, another suspect, Francis Avugbedor, who had been receiving treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, has been transferred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further medical care.

Background

The suspects were arrested in connection with a violent clash that occurred at Sankor, a suburb of Winneba, on January 25, 2026, following a series of confrontations between rival youth groups.

Earlier that day, two separate assault complaints were lodged at the police station by Emmanuel Bonney, alias Escobar, and Francis Avugbedor, each accusing the other of attacking them with cutlasses.

Later the same night, police received a distress call reporting a shooting at Sankor Junction. Upon arrival, officers found Francis Avugbedor with gunshot injuries to the abdomen and thigh. He alleged that he was attacked by a group led by Sariki Alhahi Ayuba Mohammed, during which Mohammed Ali, alias Muzambiru, allegedly fired the shot.

Another victim with suspected gunshot wounds was later admitted to hospital from the same incident.

Subsequent police operations led to the arrest of Emmanuel Bonney (Escobar), Mohammed Ali (Muzambiru), and Sariki Alhahi Ayuba Mohammed, and the retrieval of a pump-action gun believed to have been used in the attack.
