Upper West Police Intensify Anti-Drug Crackdown, Seize Large Quantities of Suspected Narcotics

The Upper West Regional Police Command has intensified coordinated operations against drug trafficking and abuse, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of significant quantities of suspected narcotic substances across the region.

According to the Police, the intensified operations over the past four weeks resulted in multiple seizures across districts including Eremon in the Lawra District, Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, as well as Hamile in the Lambussie District.

In total, authorities confiscated 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight assorted consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

On April 3, 2026, a Police patrol team intercepted a Toyota Corolla taxi at Eremon in the Lawra District, where 140 compressed slabs of the suspected narcotic substance were discovered. Two suspects, Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In a separate operation on April 1, 2026, Police personnel stationed at the Wa-Loho barrier retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus travelling from Wa towards Jirapa. Three suspects, Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee, were also arrested.

Police investigations indicate that most of the intercepted consignments were being transported northwards toward the Hamile direction for distribution.

All suspects are currently at various stages of investigation and prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been impounded as part of ongoing inquiries.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has cautioned transport owners and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used to convey illicit drugs, warning that such vehicles risk confiscation by the state, alongside possible prosecution of owners.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at combating drug trafficking and ensuring a safer and more secure environment across the region.
