Seven Suspects Arrested over Highway Robbery on Tamale–Buipe Road

The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery that occurred along the Tamale–Buipe Highway in the Savannah Region on July 21, 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Rashida Yusif, Aaron Abana Baswiefanga, Wilson Avasong, Muntaru Iddrisu (alias Virgin), Aminu Zebrilla (alias Birdman), Inusah Sumaila (alias Agenda), and Haruna Safiano.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the armed suspects attacked and robbed commuters of mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, a laptop, and other personal belongings.

An intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of Rashida Yusif, who was found in possession of an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims. Further investigations traced the phone to a mobile phone shop at Dagomba Line in Salaga, resulting in the arrest of Aaron Abana Baswiefanga and, subsequently, his uncle, Wilson Avasong, in Tamale.

Further operations led to the arrest of Muntaru Iddrisu and Aminu Zebrilla, an ex-convict, for their roles in the sale of the stolen phone. A search conducted in Aminu Zebrilla’s room uncovered several items, including locally manufactured firearms, ammunition, weapons, face masks, knives, suspected narcotic substances, talismans, assorted mobile phones, wristwatches, pen drives, SIM cards, and a jungle motorbike, believed to be proceeds and tools of criminal activity.

Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices who are currently on the run and are believed to have weapons.

The suspects are in custody and will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law.
