The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi to check on a police officer who was critically injured during violent clashes between two rival groups at Sampa in the Bono Region.

The visit, which took place on Tuesday, 7th October 2025, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Police Administration to ensure the welfare of officers injured in the line of duty and to stabilize security in the area.

According to Police reports, the injured officer, together with seven others, sustained gunshot wounds when their service vehicle came under fire during an exchange between the Sammordua and Samgba Gyafla factions at Sampa. The car veered off the road into a ditch during the crossfire.

All eight officers were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital, where seven were treated and discharged. At the same time, one who sustained severe head injuries was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical attention. The Police Administration has confirmed that the officer is in stable condition and responding to treatment.

In a show of leadership and solidarity, the IGP has also dispatched a high-powered delegation, including members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), to Sampa to assess the security situation on the ground.

The delegation will visit the injured officers who have since been discharged, evaluate operational needs, and hold engagements with the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional authorities, youth groups, and community leaders to ensure calm and lasting peace.

Meanwhile, reinforcement teams drawn from the SWAT and Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been deployed to intensify patrols and maintain law and order in Sampa and its surrounding communities.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that it remains committed to protecting lives and property while pursuing all individuals involved in the disturbances to ensure justice and peace prevail in the Bono Region.
