A major anti-drug operation by the Northern Regional Police Command has led to the arrest of seventy-seven suspects across the Tamale Metropolis and Savelugu Municipality.

The intelligence-led exercise, carried out Monday night by the Special Operations Team—popularly known as “Red Maria” forms part of intensified efforts to dismantle drug networks and restore public safety in the region.
The operation began in Lamashegu, a known hotspot for drug-related activities, where one suspect was picked up.

Officers then moved to the Aboabo Market area, arresting another suspect found with a powdered substance suspected to be cocaine.
Further intelligence led the team to NOBISCO, where an alleged supplier was apprehended, although no incriminating items were retrieved during a search of his residence.

The operation escalated in Savelugu, where police conducted a major raid at a suspected drug peddling base, resulting in the arrest of seventy-four additional suspects.
Items retrieved during the operation include seven motorbikes, a Toyota Camry, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and ten sachets of Tramadol.

All suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations. Authorities say those found culpable will be processed for court.
The Northern Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on drug-related crime and is urging the public to support ongoing efforts by volunteering timely and credible information.
