Police Nab 53-Year-Old Over Alleged Sale of Drug-Laced Alcohol in Kumasi Tavern

A 53-year-old man, identified as Adjei Owusu Afriyie, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly selling alcohol suspected to be laced with drugs at a local drinking spot in Akyeremade, Kumasi.

Police sources say the suspect was picked up during an operation at a small tavern known as “De-Vicky’s”, where officers uncovered barrels of akpeteshie, bottles of Alomo Bitters, gin, and quantities of sobolo believed to have been mixed with marijuana and other substances.

The drinks, according to investigators, were allegedly being sold to unsuspecting patrons, raising serious public health and safety concerns.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the full scale of the alleged operation and identify any possible accomplices.

Police say further legal action will be taken as evidence emerges, warning the public against consuming unregulated alcoholic beverages from unauthorized sources.
