The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), has met with key stakeholders ahead of the upcoming Akwatia By-Election to discuss security arrangements aimed at ensuring peace, law, and order before, during, and after the polls.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, provided a platform for the Police Service to brief political parties on election security measures and receive feedback from them. Representatives of the political parties commended the engagement and emphasized the need for fairness and transparency in security deployment to build trust in the electoral process.

Earlier, on August 12, 2025, the IGP and his team held discussions with the Electoral Commission (EC) on the broader roadmap for the by-election, focusing on coordination between the Police and the EC for seamless operations throughout the polls. The EC also shared its operational plan for the conduct of the election.

In a similar engagement on August 13, 2025, the Police met with the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) at the National Police Headquarters, where IDEG raised concerns over electoral security, transparency, and the importance of stakeholder collaboration in maintaining public confidence.

The Ghana Police Service says it will continue to engage relevant stakeholders in the lead-up to the by-election as it finalizes operational strategies to guarantee peace and security throughout the process.
