The Ghana Police Service has refuted media reports alleging that its officers raided the residence of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bono East Regional Chairman in Techiman, leading to the death of one person.
In an official statement, the Police described the claim as false, clarifying that no such raid took place.
According to preliminary investigations, on Friday, 1st August 2025 at around 1:20 am, officers from the Bono East Regional Command responded swiftly to intelligence about an ongoing robbery, where suspects were reportedly seen scaling a wall.
During the operation, one suspect, later identified as Seidu Bukari, sustained a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Police investigations have since revealed that the deceased was a known member of a robbery gang linked to a series of motorbike thefts in Techiman and surrounding areas, often transporting the stolen items to Kumasi for resale. Seidu Bukari had also been named as an accomplice in another ongoing criminal case under investigation.
The gang had reportedly returned to Techiman that night to carry out a similar operation when they were intercepted by Police. A motorbike and other implements believed to have been used in the robbery were retrieved at the scene, while a targeted manhunt is underway to arrest the other suspects who fled.
Further inquiries revealed that the premises where the suspects were intercepted is indeed the residence of Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East NPP Regional Chairman.
To ensure transparency and a thorough probe, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed a team from the CID Headquarters, Police Professional Standards Bureau, and Police Intelligence Directorate to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to upholding law and order, and urged the public to disregard the misleading reports circulating in sections of the media.
