The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects for unlawful possession of restricted pharmaceutical drugs and a firearm near Diare, a suburb of Savelugu in the Northern Region.
The suspects, Jabuni Mohammed, Alidu Abdul Samed, and Abdul Aziz, were apprehended on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, during a routine night patrol along the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway.

According to police reports, Jabuni, who was driving a Nissan Hardbody pick-up with registration number GN 2812–20, failed to stop at a checkpoint at Diare. This prompted a police pursuit, during which he abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee into a nearby bush but was arrested shortly afterwards.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a deflated spare tyre packed with 1,399 blister foils of Tafrodol 120mg, a restricted drug, and a loaded pistol hidden in the headrest.

Further investigations led to the arrest of the other two suspects, Alidu and Abdul Aziz, who were intercepted on an unregistered motorbike while allegedly heading to meet Jabuni.
All three suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court soon. The Northern Regional Police Command continues to urge the public to report suspicious activity to aid in the fight against crime.
