The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a senior lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba. The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was apprehended on Wednesday, May 22, 2025, at the residence of the deceased in Essuokyir, Central Region.
The lecturer had been reported missing by his colleagues on Tuesday, May 21, after repeated attempts to reach him failed. Police officers who visited his residence discovered the suspect at the scene and took him into custody.
During a preliminary search, investigators found bloodstains at the location, which led them to a heap of sand approximately 23 metres from the house. Upon further inspection, the police uncovered a body buried beneath the sand, believed to be that of the missing lecturer. The remains have since been retrieved and deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Exhibits recovered from the suspect include two Samsung mobile phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner—all confirmed to be the property of the deceased.
The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure justice is served.
