The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old Nigerian national, Emmanuel Okafor Chukwuma, for his involvement in an armed robbery attack on a Mobile Money vendor at Avenor, Accra, which left the victim injured.
The incident occurred on 30th June 2025 at about 8:30 p.m., when the victim was at her workplace. The suspect and his accomplice, identified as Emeka (currently at large), arrived on an unregistered motorbike, attacked her at gunpoint and demanded her money. During the attack, the suspect fired three shots on the ground, one of which struck the victim’s left leg. Fearing for her life, she handed over her bag containing GHS 20,000.

A courageous bystander, who wishes to remain anonymous, chased the suspects while raising an alarm, prompting others to join in. This swift intervention caused the suspects to crash their motorbike, leading to the arrest of Emmanuel Okafor Chukwuma while his accomplice managed to escape.
During investigations, Chukwuma admitted to the crime in his caution statement and revealed that they had planned to flee to Nigeria after the robbery, with travel tickets already secured. He has since been charged and remanded into police custody by the court to reappear on 30th July 2025.
Meanwhile, the stolen bag, which contained GHS 9,000 at the time of the incident, was recovered and returned to the victim.
The Accra Regional Police Command has commended the bravery and swift action of members of the public, and assures ongoing efforts to apprehend Emeka, the accomplice still at large. The Police urge the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities via emergency numbers 18555 or 191.
