The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect linked to the shooting incident that marred the 2024 general elections at the Odupongkpehe Polling Centre in Kasoa.
The suspect, Mujahid Suraj, popularly known as “Mims,” had been on the run since allegedly firing a pump-action gun during the voting process, leaving at least one voter wounded.

Police say Suraj’s weeks-long escape ended on the night of Saturday, January 17, when officers from the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, acting on intelligence, intercepted him as he returned to his residence at Odupongkpehe Zongo.
Sources indicate that the suspect had deliberately gone into hiding following the incident, which sparked public outrage and renewed concerns about electoral security during the 2024 polls.

Suraj is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, and is expected to be formally charged and arraigned before the court in the coming days.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability for all election-related violence and maintaining public confidence in the country’s democratic processes.
