The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has delegated two officials to Lagos, Nigeria, ahead of the arrival of the body of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who passed away in Ghana. The officials—GBA board member Gideon Hassen Appiah and Lateykwei Lartey, head coach of Fit Square Boxing Gym—are expected to receive the body on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
In a show of solidarity, renowned sports enthusiast Abraham Boakye, popularly known as One Man Supporter, has organized a 47-seater bus with over 30 members of the Ghana National Supporters Union to accompany the GBA delegation to Nigeria for the interment process.
Explaining his gesture, Abraham Boakye said the Union’s role goes beyond cheering teams to victory. “This is about Ghana sports. The Ghana National Supporters Union must also be present during moments of grief like this, to show support and unity,” he said.

The contingent departed Accra on Monday afternoon and is expected to arrive in Lagos within hours, barring any unforeseen delays.
GBA President Abraham Kotei Neequaye has expressed his appreciation to Mr. Boakye and his team for their unexpected and timely support. He also disclosed that the GBA has sent $3,000 through the delegation to Nigeria. The amount includes $1,500 from the GBA as a donation to the bereaved family, and $1,500 from Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Boxing Management, as the boxer’s unpaid fight purse. The funds will be handed over to the President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC).
Further updates will be provided regarding the repatriation and burial of the late Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, whose body is expected to be airlifted to Nigeria on June 17, 2025.
