New Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Board Inaugurated to Promote Equity in Public Sector Pay

A seven-member Governing Board of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been inaugurated to strengthen fairness, transparency, and accountability in public sector compensation in Ghana.

The board is chaired by Samuel Adu-Yeboah, a legal practitioner with Adom Mbrodo Law Chamber. It comprises professionals from diverse backgrounds, including law, public administration, and labour relations.

  • Joyce Asiedu-Ofei, Ghana Employers Association

  • Shadrack Mensah, Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment

Minister’s Charge to the Board

Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, charged the board to uphold fairness and equity in managing public sector pay. He emphasized the critical role of the FWSC in advancing good governance and wage justice in Ghana’s public administration.

Dr. Pelpuo also pointed to the growing challenge of managing the public wage bill within a sustainable economic framework. He advocated for the creation of an Independent Emoluments Commission to address wage disparities and streamline salary administration across the public sector.

He congratulated the board members on their appointments and thanked them for their willingness to serve. He also tasked them with developing effective strategies to reduce labour unrest triggered by pay inequities and pledged his full cooperation and support in their mandate.

Board’s Response

On behalf of the board, Samuel Adu-Yeboah expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in them. He assured stakeholders of the board’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and equity in delivering on its responsibilities.
