The Ahafo Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in a major late-night operation, uncovering an AK-47 assault rifle, pistols, ammunition and other dangerous items believed to be intended for a planned robbery.
The arrests were made on Saturday, February 22, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., when taskforce patrol teams mounted a stop-and-search operation along the Ayomsu–Goaso Road. Police spotted two men—Johnson Mawutor, 26, and Kelvin Ofori, 22—riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomsu, near Goaso.

According to police, the suspects switched off their motorbike headlights and attempted to flee upon sighting officers. A pursuit followed, leading to their arrest. A search revealed an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, concealed in a bag they were carrying.
Following the arrest, police escorted the suspects to their residences at Abro Danho, a suburb of Goaso. A subsequent search of Johnson Mawutor’s room uncovered a cache of weapons and equipment, including a Beretta Bruni pistol, an additional pistol, assorted ammunition, four mobile phones, a drone, a machete and a bayonet knife.
Preliminary investigations indicate that earlier that same day, Mawutor allegedly sent his cousin, Mawuli Dogba, 20, to Techiman to collect a parcel from an accomplice identified as Mohammed Adinan Ussif, who is currently on the run. The parcel was later transported to Goaso, where it was retrieved by Mawutor and Ofori.

Police say the suspects were intercepted hours later while allegedly heading to Ayomsu with the firearm and ammunition, believed to be part of preparations for a robbery.
Investigations are ongoing to arrest the fugitive suspect and any other collaborators. The three arrested suspects are expected to be arraigned before court and remanded to assist further investigations, while all exhibits remain in police custody.
The Ahafo Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and has called on the public to volunteer information to support the fight against crime.
