A 16-year-old Junior High School (JHS) student has died following an alleged stabbing by a 15-year-old schoolmate during a confrontation reportedly linked to a relationship dispute in the Akontombra District of the Western North Region.
The incident occurred on Monday at Nkwadum, where both students attend Nkwadum D/A Junior High School.
The deceased, Akua Kumah, a JHS 3 pupil, is alleged to have been stabbed by Francisca Hayford, a JHS 2 student of the same school. Police have taken the suspect into custody to assist with investigations.

Preliminary reports indicate that the two teenagers became involved in a disagreement while returning from school, which later escalated into a physical confrontation. During the incident, Akua Kumah sustained a stab wound.
She was rushed to the Sefwi Nsawora Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital morgue for preservation and further examination.
The Assembly Member for the Nkwadum Electoral Area, Isaac Etsie, confirmed the incident, stating that the altercation stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two students.
“I was informed on Monday evening that two students engaged in a fight on their way home from school, which tragically resulted in the death of one of them,” he told journalists.
A Physician Assistant at the Sefwi Nsawora Health Centre, Charles Kwabena Amoako, also confirmed that the victim was brought in deceased.
Police investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
