Three persons have been successfully prosecuted and convicted for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District.
The convicts—Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan—were sentenced on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, by the Wa District Magistrate Court, after pleading guilty to the offences.

Presiding over the case, His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako convicted the accused persons on their own pleas and imposed a fine of Two Hundred (200) penalty units each, equivalent to ¢2,400.00, or nine (9) months’ imprisonment in default.
The accused persons had earlier been remanded in custody before their final appearance in court.
The convictions underscore the Police Administration’s resolve to clamp down on the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, which remains a major threat to peace and security in the region.
The public is once again encouraged to support the Ghana Police Service by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across the country.
