IGP Visits Wa, Speaks With Overlord About Killings

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is in Wa, the regional capital of the Upper West, following the murder of private security workers in the region.

He visited the Overlord of the Wa Traditional Area, Wa Naa Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV, along with a few members of the Police Management Board and the Upper West Regional Police Command.

The IGP earlier went on a security tour of the municipality with a few members of the Police Management Board and the Regional Police Command.

The Interior Minister, Hon. Ambrose Dery, arrived first and spoke with the local security in a private setting.

Members of the security council followed him as he visited the palace of the traditional area’s overlord to reaffirm the commitment of the government to maintaining security and peace in Wa.

Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo, the overlord of the Waala traditional territory, expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts to date to bring about peace in the Wa township.

The IGP’s first trip to the region is intended to inform the service about the new security measures implemented to promote calm to Wa and the Upper West region as a whole.

In Wa over the past nine months, 10 private security officers have been killed by unidentified gunmen, with the most recent instance occurring last Friday.

This angered youth in the area, who protested the incessant killings.

The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery however has been meeting with leaders of the Waala traditional area and has assured of thorough investigations into the matter.
